Give Thanks for the Unexpected Gifts

October 31, 2025

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.– (Psalms 9:1)

I took my car to the shop because the “maintenance required” message flashed on the dashboard. I was hoping it was something routine and nothing major. We had just spent $1,100 on maintenance for one of our other cars, and I didn’t want to spend another dime on car maintenance anytime soon. When I arrived at the shop, they looked at my file and said it was time for a tire rotation. I was relieved; the tire rotation didn’t sound too bad. When I picked up the car, I walked straight to the cashier with my card in hand, ready to pay the bill. To my surprise, the paperwork said $0. Say what?!?!? I don’t have to pay anything? Apparently, I didn’t need a tire rotation after all because my best tires were already in the front (they had to educate me about that). In addition, they did a multi-point inspection and didn’t charge me for that either. I thanked the Lord, grabbed my keys, and got out of there. I have grown accustomed to getting the call that they have found something else wrong with the car. That day I received a gift. Not because I deserved one or even asked. The Lord is just good.

Take time to reflect on the unexpected, undeserved gifts that God has given you and thank Him for His goodness towards you.
